We Were Transitioned as Children. Here’s How We May Finally Be Able To Achieve Justice

Claire Abernathy, Soren Aldaco, and Prisha Mosley shared their powerful stories of detransitioning at a recent Federal Trade Commission workshop, and they are urging other detransitioners to also share their stories with the FTC.

When the three of us were children suffering from gender dysphoria, medical professionals told us and our parents that we would eventually commit suicide if we didn’t receive so-called “gender-affirming care.”

But there’s a word for affirming something that’s not true: “lying.”

Hormones and surgeries were never going to make us members of the opposite sex—they did, however, irreparably harm our bodies in the fraudulent name of medical “care.”

On July 9, we spoke at the Federal Trade Commission’s workshop, “The Dangers of ‘Gender-Affirming Care’ for Minors.” Because part of the FTC’s job is to crack down on commercial actors who partake in “unfair or deceptive acts and practices,” we gave our testimonies exposing the medical establishment’s lies that led to our hormonal and surgical disfigurement. Following our testimonies, the FTC launched an investigation into so-called “gender-affirming care.” Now, we’re asking all those harmed by gender affirming care—including fellow detransitioners—to join us in speaking out and telling the FTC their stories.

As Ambassadors at Independent Women, we call for an end to the gender-medicine complex’s abuse of children by sharing our stories on social media, television news, podcasts, and even the floors of legislatures. Although rehashing the trauma of what we’ve been through is difficult, to say the least, we do so because we understand the power of stories like ours in unmasking gender ideology and revealing its dangers to others.

Many of the feelings that led us into the belly of the medical establishment are normal, which is part of what makes how they’ve been medicalized so deceptive. The shock of puberty and entering womanhood is something most women experience and can relate to—yet doctors enabled us to modify our female bodies instead of coming to terms with them.

In doing so, they failed—sometimes intentionally but always spectacularly—to warn us about the side effects and potential complications of “transgender” hormonal and surgical interventions. This trespass robbed us of precious time, took advantage of our vulnerabilities, and replaced the normal scars of adolescence with artificial ones.

All three of us have experienced hormonal injury from the testosterone doctors prescribed to us as minors—Prisha and Soren when they were just 17, and Claire before she was even in high school. Vaginal atrophy, unwanted hair growth, and hormonal imbalances, among other issues, persist even after detransitioning, although no medical professional adequately informed us that this could happen.

Each of us also had double mastectomies performed on us in our teenage years, and all three of us experienced severe complications that no medical professional warned us about. When she was just 14, Claire experienced nipple graft rejection following her double mastectomy, as surgeons had—without informing her or her parents—performed a “drains-free” procedure that put her at higher risk for that complication.

Soren, at the age of 19, also underwent a “drain-free” mastectomy and almost died. Two weeks after the surgery to remove her healthy breasts, a life-threatening pool of blood formed at the surgery site, requiring emergency removal. She spent the months after that in appointments with third-party specialists while the center that originally did her surgery gaslit, then ghosted her.

Prisha, meanwhile, found only after she detransitioned and had her son that the mastectomy she’d received at the age of 18 had been botched—breast milk following her pregnancy was trapped in her chest, unable to get out because surgeons had cut up her nipples and sewn them on in the wrong place to make them appear more “masculine.” The trapped breast milk only amplified Prisha’s pain and increased her recovery time, especially since years of testosterone permanently damaged her body and forced her to deliver via a cesarean section.

The unpleasant truth is that we will never get back our healthy, unaltered bodies. Doctors and surgeons took them from us, and therapists aided and abetted our delusions instead of helping us accept ourselves as women—the complex, independent kind, not the kind defined by clothes or habit. As part of this, they never warned us of the complications we would face from the so-called “treatments” they prescribed and performed on us. They never warned us how gender ideology would make our problems worse and push us further away from our sex.

But we can and we will warn the country and end this medical abuse once and for all. Thankfully, the FTC is listening to our warnings—and they want to hear yours, too. If you have been adversely affected by “gender medicine” and the pervasive medical fraud that accompanies it, tell the FTC your story before the deadline on September 26 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

The medical establishment has chosen to do the bidding of an ideology that lies to children and their parents. It has strategically manipulated countless young minds, and it has irreparably damaged countless young bodies, all while attempting to hide the risks of the drugs and surgeries it peddles and making false claims about what they can accomplish. Because at the end of the day, no human being can change sex. It’s time that Americans who have been affected by this medical fraud speak out to those who will listen at the FTC and help put an end to this barbarity, once and for all.
