I was referred to a local “surgical specialist” by my primary doctor for a treatment. I knew I hadn’t hit my annual deductible and was short on cash, so I specifically asked for a quote for the procedure BEFORE booking the appointment.
The quote was $250 for the initial consultation and then $1,000 for the specific procedure. I was charged $2,036!
Insurance adjusted the fees, but the total after the adjustment was still $1,396. That is more than I was quoted BEFORE the adjustment.
I called the office three times to explain the error and ask for a re-billing according to my quote. They never sent an adjustment and never sent the billing codes I requested (so I could research the “usual and customary” fees for those procedures). Now, they placed me in collections for the $1396.
