“I’m a polymath, a person with many different interests who makes connections across disciplines. I got a job working as an editor, but the tedium and routine of working a desk job taxed me, sucked the life out of me. I crave variety; I crave learning. To fill those drives, I finally stepped off the boat in 2006 as a full-time freelancer. I’ve never looked back. This path is not an easy one. The astronomical cost of health insurance and health care looms large. Not knowing what my next gig will be also is a scary factor. But I can pick and choose when, where, for whom, and how I do my work, as well as the projects and subjects I work on. I am much happier working in gig economy, despite the uncertainty. I want to be able to maintain the freedom to work in the manner I choose to.”
