In public school, I was called “slow.” My first daughter couldn’t read in 3rd grade attending public school. CA was teaching reading by memory at that time. I enrolled my daughter in an after-school program that taught reading phonetically. She went from a 2nd-grade reading level to a 7th-grade reading level in 5 months. The phonics instructor called me to tell me my daughter was gifted. I withdrew my daughter from public school and enrolled her in private school. Today she is almost completed with her graduate studies in directing and writing at Columbia University. Public school was NEVER an option for my 2nd daughter and [she] ALWAYS attended private school. She is a graduate of Columbia Business School. I support SCHOOL CHOICE. We should not be paying taxes for schools if there is no school choice. I believe the school unions, as well as all unions, are corrupt and only harm the USA.
