I had to have a special X-ray on my shins–I had a lot of pain there, but no one could explain it. I was sent to the hospital to have the procedure done. I was concerned when they used some kind of radiation pill.

The bill was around $4000 – I don’t remember exactly. I wasn’t warned and wouldn’t have bothered had I known the cost. The doctor claimed she didn’t know the cost, nor that my insurance wouldn’t cover it. The hospital had taken my insurance info, but didn’t warn me. It took me years to pay it off.

I want transparency on costs. Even though I’m on Medicare, I think we should know the costs upfront. We might not bother with something that isn’t critical if it is costly.
