We women, athletes or not, deserve our own private spaces and public victories…

I played varsity lacrosse at Bowling Green State University just as Title 9 was being ushered in—1973-1977. We girls had to drive ourselves to meets, stay overnight at opposing team members homes/dorms, had no home locker rooms, and had used equipment (unless we bought it ourselves). The guys had the best practice fields, team dinners before every match, had a university bus transport them, stayed at hotels, and had the most up to date equipment.

We finally got our Varsity letters about 10 years ago when the school decided to recognize all of the female athletes. We women, athletes or not, deserve our own private spaces and public victories. Men have had it all for far too long. Only women are females. Only females are women. Period.
